Linear potentiometric sensors (linear potentiometers) are among the simplest, cheapest, but also the most widely used encoders. Modern linear potentiometers have a resistance path made of conductive plastic, which ensures high resolution (up to 0.01 mm) and high speed of movement (up to 10 m / s). The linearity error ranges from 0.05 to 0.2% and the service life reaches up to 100 million cycles. This is an absolute measurement, the value is maintained even after a power failure. They are mostly used in industry, laboratories in testing, etc.
